Feel the Warmth: Eyeon Equine Wraps, by Chloe

There’s not many things better than grazing in the field and feeling the morning sun hit your coat, spreading warmth throughout your body. Basking in the sun doesn’t just improve your mood, it actually optimizes your health. Sunshine can increase blood circulation, reduce pain, ease joint stiffness, decrease inflammation, and boost cell repair and strength. Sunshine can also be harmful, though. The ultraviolet radiation from the sun can cause cancer, skin damage and premature aging, especially in our white blazed friends. Now what if I told you that there is a product that scientifically mimics these invisible, healing rays of the sun (while leaving the harmful UV-rays behind), so that your body could feel the beneficial properties of sunlight whenever it needed?

EyeOn Equine Care capitalizes on this naturally occurring infrared ray concept to help prevent equine injuries and to treat existing injuries by accelerating the body’s own healing process. EyeOn Equine Care was nice enough to send me their high-tech breathable support and compression wraps to test out. The wraps are designed to alleviate common issues in our high impact sport, like inflammation, swelling, soreness, wounds/abrasions, cellulitis and even the dreaded “L” word… lameness. The wraps heal by increasing oxygen and blood circulation, slightly increasing the body’s temperature, thus accelerating lymph flow and the natural healing process. The wraps are made with non-slip, medical grade and highly breathable foam embedded with an infrared natural compound called EyeOn. EyeOn absorbs “heat waves and transforms them into far infrared waves that penetrate deeply into the joints and tissues to warm the leg up before, during and after workouts”. Unlike other similar wraps made of ceramics that trap the heat and can result in cell damage and loss, these wraps are foam based and  breathable, permitting the natural thermoregulation of heat. The wraps can also be used while you are being ridden or lunged.

Since receiving the wraps, I haven’t had any injuries or soreness issues that would require my immediate need of the wraps (knock-knock on my stall wall), but I wanted to test them out in some capacity for purposes of this review. I am widely known for my long dancer’s legs, so it may surprise you to hear that I am friends with Amora, an 11 year-old mare that suffers from Oedema. Both her back legs stock up, but a previous traumatic injury to her right hind causes it to become even larger. It is quite unsightly and looks very uncomfortable! Despite this I am still friends with her, so I let her borrow my new wraps to see if they would help. I know, I know, I am a really good friend. The barn owner and trainer was so pleased with the results after just 7 hours that she put them back on the next day while Amora was in her stall. She said that after only two uses, “Amora’s leg has never looked better”. The before and after pictures below do not lie.

Also worth noting is that your person can use the wraps on their own human injuries. Andrea used them on her scrawny bicep/triceps after a particularly strenuous workout at her gym (I heard she is up to 10 lb dumbbells now). I overheard her and her friend discussing the temperature differences in her arms after using my wrap on just her right arm. The right arm (after taking the wrap off) was noticeably warmer after just 25 minutes of wearing the wrap and she had better range of motion and less pain after using it. I will have to remember to try to poop on my wrapped leg so that she doesn’t feel inclined to take my wraps home with her. 🙂

I will continue to provide any updates on the wraps on the Horse Glam social media. In the meantime, I look forward to using my wraps during Andrea’s lessons to prevent injuries caused by rider error.

If you have any questions that you cannot find answers to on the EyeOn Equine Care website, I highly suggest you email them. I found their customer service to be one of the friendliest in the business. xo Chloe

Meet C&C Signature

C&C Signature (“C&C”) is an equestrian company based out of Virginia that has two divisions, Filly Finery (custom-made fly bonnets, embroidered goods, vinyl decals and other similar accessories) and Cheval Classique (tack and leather goods). Owners Chloe and Carly began C&C officially in 2016, but have been working on the concept and designs since 2014. Chloe and Carly strive to bring you A-circuit quality and classical style, with modern trends, at a price point affordable for every rider.

If you need a new bridle, look no further. In fact, even if you don’t need a new bridle but you are tired of changing out bits, or cleaning your everyday bridle for the show ring, then seriously, you need to keep reading this review.  YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER BRIDLE FOR THIS PRICE. My previous bridle was more than double this price and there is no difference (to my eyes) in the quality or stitching. I promise you I will always look to C&C first for leather tack going forward. In fact, Chloe is in desperate need of a new leather halter and I plan to purchase this one !

Chloe has been using the Cheval Classique fancy stitch traditional bridle with removable flash, as pictured herein. When I first opened the package, I was blown away by how nice the bridle was. Truly, the bridle is so reasonably priced that I just wasn’t expecting to find such attention to detail with an obvious emphasis on the horse’s comfort.  The leather is gorgeous and soft and the fancy stitching on the browband and noseband is beautiful. There is ample padding where your horse appreciates it most: crownpiece, browband, noseband, and noseband buckle guard. The crownpiece is anatomically contoured and there are ear cut outs to help with the release of pressure from your horse’s head, neck and poll. I appreciated that the leather was already dark (2 colors to choose from; I chose Havana) and I didn’t have to soak it in warm neatsfoot oil like I did my last bridle. I also liked how supple it was – I put it together in record time (for me). I am the worst at swapping bits out – seriously it takes me forever to work the leather. This leather, however, is like butter. I am not sure that is something that most people comment on normally, but I imagine that Chloe, my horse, appreciates the softness since it is wrapped all around her pretty face.

The first few weeks that I had the bridle at the barn, I had so many compliments and questions about it. People inquired about it and when I told them the price, they were blown away. In fact, my trainer purchased the same bridle for her new prospect! You can scoop this bridle AND the reins for $140. Yes, that price includes the reins. You can choose between leather or rubber. I chose the rubber reins because I had been contemplating buying a pair for rainy jumper days anyway. Like the bridle, the reins were super nice, with fancy raised leather stitching at the base and built-in leather martingale stoppers. I honestly haven’t owned a pair of rubber reins with fancy stitching before so I was super impressed. It really is the little things!

As mentioned, there is a clear focus on the horse in C&C’s bridle designs with the extra padding and anatomical monocrown with ear cutouts. Additionally, the leather goes through a more natural process for tanning, without the use of chromium and other harsh chemicals. The rider shouldn’t feel left out, however, because the affordability of these leather goods, without loss in overall quality, is a major win and something you don’t often find in the equestrian world. I LOVE that this bridle is from a small company and I look forward to continue to support C&C.
