Summer is my favorite time of year, but it also means the flies are out with a vengeance. The horses at our barn are show horses, but they are lucky enough to have access to large paddocks where they can go out in groups of two for 12 hours a day. This also means I go through a ton of fly spray. Sometimes I think it does nothing because Chloe is still stomping and swatting. She wears a fly mask (tip: don’t buy black – I learned that those get hot and she would take them off for that reason) but I have never purchased her a fly sheet mainly because I always felt that if I were a horse, I would hate to wear it. Especially since we just got over blanket season not too long ago! So, I have avoided the fly sheets…but now I wonder if I need one.
I did a little research and from what I found, the Amigo Bug Buster “Vamoose” by Horseware Ireland is the way to go. The fabric is soft, reflects sunlight and contains the active ingredient, Permethrin, which is an odorless and invisible film protecting against mosquitos, ants, ticks, flies and midges. This repellant lasts up to 35 washes. I also liked that the belly was protected, as that is typically the area Chloe is kicking at, and I liked that the neck detaches. There is also shoulder and mane lining to protect against rubs.
If I decide to take the pluge, I will do a full review for you all! If anyone has any other suggestions or comments about this Amigo let me know!!
